Meet Dr. Sophie L. Oswald
Dr. Oswald was born in Vietnam and migrated with her family to London, England at 8 years old. She spent most of her childhood in central London and moved to the U.S at age 16. She completed high school in Falls Church, Virginia, and obtained a Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Subsequently she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University dental school with the highest honor, Summa Cum Laude, and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.
Dr. Oswald returned to the D.C metropolitan area when she attended Washington Hospital Center for her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency. Her training included rotations at Children’s National Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Veteran’s Affairs hospital. At these institutions, she gained wide spectrum of training and is proficient in diagnosis and treatment of dental implant surgery, oral and facial trauma, orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, reconstructive surgery for pathologies of the jaw, as well as wisdom teeth extractions. She also has had extensive training for in-office sedations.
Dr. Oswald’s most rewarding moments have been in many Mission of Mercy trips including multiple locations all over Virginia and the most recent includes the trip to the Philippines where she performed dental extractions as well as cleft lip and palate surgery for the local adult and children in need. In her spare time she enjoys spending quality time with her darling husband, Mike, beautiful daughter Katherine, son Jacob (JJ) and their doggie, Dylan. She looks forward to meeting new patients and providing quality care to the community as this is her passion.
